Isla Mujeres is a small Caribbean island located a few miles from Cancun and the Mayan Peninsula of Mexico. My sister lives there so I have visited it many times. The island is only a few miles long and in places no more than several hundred feet wide. Development has been restricted and tourists have not overwhelmed it, though it’s a matter of time. The diving offers excellent wide angle and macro opportunities in relatively shallow (40 foot) water. Purple seafans are abundant along with flamingo tongues, featherdusters, and numerous schools of fish among large coral heads. All diving is from small dinghies with as few as one or as many as 8 divers.
